RRR010 – Arema Arega + Born 74 – Blue Bossa, My Feeling
Ramrock Red Records are incredibly happy to be introducing Born74 & Arema Arega to the Ramrock line up with their explosively fresh jazz outing, ‘Blue Bossa – My Feeling’. The original was previously released independently earlier this year and has already received mad props from every major jazz presenter. The Afrikanz on Marz outfit – Ashley Beedle & Darren Morris – added their remixes to the original and together, these now form the ‘Blue Bossa – My Feeling’ EP. The Piano Mix showcases Darren Morris’s jazz improvisation keyboard mastery to full effect.Arema Arega, born in Voronezh, Russia to an Ethiopian father & Cuban mother & UK artist Born74, Bristol born and raised, met on a website called ‘Metapop’ by Native Instruments, a place where producers and collaborators share their ideas. After uploading the ‘Blue Bossa’ instrumental, Born74 received a message from Arema saying that she had some vocal and brass melodies plus new riffs for the track, all recorded on her mobile phone! Connecting with the spirit of ‘Blue Bossa’, Arema turned the track into ‘My Feeling’, a blend of soul and jazz rhythms, which cemented the fabulous musical partnership between the two artists which lead to Born74’s first release. With Born74’s background of the urban and multi-cultural vibe of Bristol, he became engrained with the spirit of the world and inspired by the Acid Jazz scene of the 90's, he started making beats discovering Nu-Jazz and through the variety and energy of that music found a new passion. Arema’s Cuban heritage resonates throughout both her musical and design work – a fusion of blues with soul, bossa with jazz and folk with funk. As a featured artist on ‘Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura: The Search Continues’ and ‘Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura: Anthology’, Arema was invited by the Bahama Soul Club to collaborate on ‘The Cuban Tapes’, ‘The Havana ́58’ , ‘The Havana Remixes’ and the ‘Club des Belugas's Album Nine’. Her most recent release is the LP ‘Red Soundtracks’ is part of an on-going imaginary film score project.
